Portrait Projects Overview
Beginning in 1997, John Bakker began a series of community based installation projects that highlight the intrinsic dignity of individuals and the networks that constitute those communities.
The Old Town Portrait Project —shown here at about 25% complete, 75 or 310 panels ultimately— celebrating Chicago’s diverse, vibrant Old Town neighborhood. It is sponsored by a neighborhood art center in Chicago’s Old Town called Art on Sedgwick, the art center that draws us all together. Still in process the artist is accepting photos of people who live, work, worship or shop in Old Town; when complete it will consist of about 400 portraits on 317 panels. To participate click here
